Due to money problems we can not get to a dentist right now. Tylonol, ibprofene and codine are not working. Crushed asprin does not help either.
Call your community health department to see if there is a free or reduced fee dental clinic in your area. Most counties have one. If you notice any swelling go to the emergency room immediately. Toothaches that abcess can be dangerous. The infection can travel to your brain and can kill you. You cannot cure a toothache at home. If you cannot get rid of the pain with codiene, you will not be able to get rid of the toothache. If the pain is that bad, you more than likely have an infection, which you cannot get rid of without antibiotics or removing the source of the infection. If all else fails- go to your medical doctor or local health clinic.

I was given prescription for Folic acid, the doctor said its free for every pregnant woman. In chemistry though they asked me to pay saying prescriptions are free only after 3 months of pregnancy.Information on internet says EVERY pregnant woman has free prescription and dental care.So how is it?I am in England.
Allright, if I have the certificate, can I get the money I paid back? The problem was that the chemist did not want any proof of pregnancy from me.She simply said the pregnancy is only two months and I have to pay(doesn't matter if I have any exemption certificate). I still have the prescription paper as she sold me the same tablets over the counter as it was cheaper-though still expensive for me.Can I complain somewhere and get my money back?
yea, you get the card and its valid from conception till when your baby is predicted to be a year old - from your due date
The lady doesnt know what shes talking about!! I got my card when i was about 6 weeks pregnant and it was valid from when 'conception was predicted' as if if i had already paid for some then i could get the money back.
You definitly without a doubt should be getting them free of charge, if you have got your card i would go back to she shop that this was valid from whenever and i am entiled to it free and if its the same woman ask to talk to the manager, someone in that shop must know what their talking about!!
Dont be getting mugged off by people who havnt got a clue!!
Goodluck with this!

Formerly, I am a grade 12 student in canada seeking to become a dentist. I do not possess knowledge of the time it takes to finish collgege and finsh studies in order to befit a dentist in public health or general dentistry. Could i know the least amount of years it takes, please?
You have to do 4 yrs of undergrad study and take all the required subjects. Usually all the major universities have a "pre-dent" bachelor program which gets you everything.
Some dental schools also accept an associate degree (2 yrs). Check with the schools that you plan to apply to.
After that its 4 years of dental school. So normally 4 yrs of undergrad + 4 yrs of dental school = dentist
You're looking at minimum 6 to 8yrs of studying.
That's all the studying you need to become a general dentist. If you plan to specialize then it depends on your chosen specialty.
Hope that was helpful.

Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone out there knew of a charitable or even government that helps people that can't afford dental care?
Thanks
~knk
I don't know of any, but I live in a town with a dental school and their rates are very affordable. This could be an option for you.

I get my teeth professionally cleaned by the dentist twice a year and that's what they recommend you do . But now I'm starting to think it might be wearing down my teeth . Would getting them cleaned only once a year be better than twice ?
NO! Enamel is the hardest substance in your body, harder than bone. Getting your teeth cleaned regularly is nothing but beneficial, it DOES NOT wear down your teeth. Hygienists remove only plaque, tartar and stain, our tools cannot remove enamel.
BTW, fluoride is perfectly safe, it does not harm your teeth, it strengthens them. Only a child under the age of six that ingests an abundance of fluoride can have mottling and discoloration of the permanent teeth, because until that age the teeth are still forming. Even then the teeth may not look good, but they are healthy!!

My friend’s daughter needs dental surgery, but they can’t afford it. They have dental insurance, but they’ve met their limit for the year. They can’t get coverage again until December, but their daughter needs help immediately.
Are there any programs that can help? I think FAMIS requires that you are not covered by insurance (which makes me insane). Any ideas?
Thank you!
check the Virginia Dept. of Health’s website to see if the county of residence has a dental program

I have had a lot of trouble with certain teeth #16, #15, #14. I have had two teeth pulled trying to find the problem. I have been to many dentist and specialist to no avail. I am wearing a soft mouth guard at night and woke up this morning with #14 really sore. It seems that the soft mouth guard is making things worse. What type of dentist should I be going to?
1. You got it right. When you grind heavily, a soft mouthguard DOES NOT help, because the force is still getting transmitted through it.
2. You HAVE TO spend the few hundred dollars and get a custom made HARD Occlusal Guard.
3. You have to first go to your own / general dentist.
4. Get a referral to see a TMJ / TMD specialist. That can be either an Oral Surgeon or a specialist in Oral Medicine, It depends on what special branch they specialize in.
5. The reason you need the referral is that your insurance will most likely cover the cost if you go through your primary dentist and document the need.
I have done that for many of my patients.

I'm 19 years old and rejoined college full time last September and I'm just wondering whether or not I am eligible for free dental care.
I've heard that I am and that I'm not from different people, does anybody have any help?
No

The first dentist I saw said root canal and its possible for the tooth to brake during the procedure. The second dentist I saw said I had to have it remove by a oral surgeon. It is a slight fracture in the root of my tooth. You guys choose for me. I don't like to lose a tooth if it can be saved .
I hear you saying the first dentist says he will try a root canal but the tooth might break during the procedure. The second dentist says just have the whole thing removed by an oral surgeon. You are absolutely right to try to save the tooth. I would go with the first dentist. Maybe the tooth WON"T break, and he can do the root canal, and then crown the tooth. If it does break, then he might have to remove the tooth after all. Or it might break but there's enough left to fix a crown onto anyway. At least with the first dentist you are given the chance to save the tooth. Sometimes when the root canal doesn't work out (like if the tooth breaks off too short and has to be pulled) the dentist will give you a credit (not charge) for work he already did. It can really vary. If you are concerned about the cost or don't have insurance, explain to the dentist you want to try to save the tooth and talk with him frankly about the cost. Be aware that after a root canal, you will want to have the tooth crowned, so plan for this additional expense. After a root canal, the tooth gradually gets brittle and the crown protects it. You will never regret trying to save a tooth; it prevents problems later on. If you do wind up having the tooth pulled, consider getting an implant in that space.

I can't afford to get my four impacted wisdom teeth removed in the states, and a few people keep telling me to try Mexico. It makes sense because I live so close to the border. It also appears the cost are over 70% less in Tiajuana.
Canada or Costa Rica are not options, since the travel costs of going there would negate the cheaper cost of dental care.
Sorry but that would be too risky for me
