How long would it take on average for a dentist to fill a filling?

I have a cavity and the dentist put in a temporary filling and now I am going to get the real filling put in it.How long is this procudure going to take?Everytime I go to the dentist it has been for root canals or to get teeth pulled and it is always a major production.I have never been in there for just one filling. Will this take 20 min or is it a longer procedure? Thanks.

It depends on how many surfaces of the tooth he needs to fill. If it is only one filling it will take somewhere between 40-60 minutes.

if the doctor is good, you can have it done in under 30 minutes. maybe around 15-20 minutes top.
