What kind of meds will the dentist prescribe after pulling a tooth?

I am a little nervous about having a tooth pulled on Thrusday. It will be the first time and hopfully the last, what type of meds will the dentist prescribe for pain? How long will the pain last because I am scduduled for 9am and I need to return to work the same day?

He should prescribe an antibiotic and a narcotic.

If it is a regular tooth they won't prescribe anything as there is no pain with pulling a tooth. They numb you and pull it and that is it. If you do feel pain take 400-600 mg of ibuprofen.

He should prescribe 800milligrams of ibuprofen for pain and swelling. Then an antibiotic to fight infection. If your sensitive the ibuprofen will make you sleepy. You also need to take it with food or else you'll have a killer tummy ache.

they will only tell you to either take tylenol or motrin. most of the times this will work just fine. If it is an impacted tooth like a wisdom tooth they will give you something more and some antibiotics. If you are still in great pain you can usually call in and they MAY give you something more.

    An antibiotic, and usually vicodin.
